the grand-voyeux regional nature reserve

The reserve is located around 12 km from Meaux, in Congis-sur-Thérouanne, on the banks of the Marne, in the heart of the Boucles de la Marne Natura 2000 area.

Throughout the year, Pascal, who runs the Maison du Grand-Voyeux, will welcome you and help you discover the reserve: no fewer than 225 species of bird are observed in the reserve over the course of a year. So you can go in any season, and return throughout the year: you’ll never see the same species, and you’ll see the reserve change with the seasons.

Who knows, you might even be able to appreciate the wingspan of a marsh harrier, the colours of a kingfisher or the hoopoe (tuft of feathers on the head) of a great crested grebe!

immerse yourself in nature

As soon as you arrive at the nature reserve, you’re in the middle of nowhere and you can already hear the birds singing.

Don’t have binoculars? Don’t worry! When you arrive, you’ll have to visit the Maison du Grand-Voyeux, which will lend you some free of charge!

Once you’re equipped, you can set off to explore the reserve. You’ll follow the signposted path, sometimes through the forest, sometimes alongside a pond, and each area is an invitation to unwind. Observation points are scattered all along the route: the place invites you to silence, contemplation and listening to the different sounds of the reserve. It’s a place where you need to take your time.

It’s a place where you need to take your time, then let yourself be carried away by the place, and be surprised at the turn of a path by a new observatory, where you might even spot some new birds!

Do you prefer a guided tour of the reserve? No problem! You can take part in one of the guided tours offered on the days the reserve is open.

The Grand-Voyeux regional nature reserve can be visited free of charge all year round, depending on when it is open. The reserve is a protected area: the site is restricted to avoid disturbing birds: so remember to book your visit before you come.
