Battle of the Marne 1914 tour

Presentation

Go to where it happened.

The plains of the Brie region saw the first fighting of the Battle of the Marne, which lasted from September 5 to 12, 1914.

Since the outbreak of war in August, the German army has crossed Belgium, pursuing the retreating French armies and British Expeditionary Force.

Paris was only 40 kilometers away! But history would have it otherwise... It was the "Miracle of the Marne".

Depart from the Musée de la Grande Guerre in Meaux and follow in the footsteps of the soldiers of the Battle of the Marne, discovering the places and men who made history.

A 40-kilometre tourist loop through the countryside, with 10 sites to explore, evokes a decisive battle of the First World War, in a landscape that has remained virtually unchanged.
