This memorial military cemetery was erected in memory of the French soldiers died fighting for the Etrepilly taken, Sept. 7th, 1914 during the Battle of Ourcq (6th to 9th of September 1914). The Battle of Ourcq (or Battle of Multien) is part of the large-scale operation that was the first battle of the Marne.

The offensive against the French allowed to stop the German advance and push them to retreat further north. On the territory of the Ourcq region, especially on the upland of Multien, the Etrepilly, Douy-la-Ramée, Marcilly, Puisieux, Vincy-Manoeuvre or Trocy-en-Multien municipalities were field of heavy fighting.

A hiking trail will allow you to walk again in the footsteps of « les Poilus » and move through these lanscapes were, there was almost 100 years, a huge battlefield.
